We went with Rock Central due to the fact that they were a referral from our agent and their scope of work was more extensive than the competitors we were looking at: replacing flashing (deemed necessary by our inspector) essentially installing new everything, and new gutters. The other company we looked at was going to reuse material, something Rock Central Roofing claims on their website they never do. It was all handled through the previous owner's insurance and was a condition on closing. In our case, they subcontracted out Valdez Roofing and they did bad work, reused, skimmed, cut corners, damaged other parts of our house like the soffits and interior trim. The only thing they did different from the competitor was the gutters and they leaked, and were pitched improperly so that water just sat in them. A month into our new roof, it failed in the area over our dining room, damaging our ceiling, and multiple walls in our house. When we opened up the ceiling, gallons of water poured out. Joey claimed, in 20 years, this has never happened before, not to worry, they're not like most crooks in the business, they would cover all the damages and make things right. He asked if we'd like to handle it and they'd reimburse us or they could do everything. We tried to let them handle it, but we felt doubtful of their work (not protecting our floors, not opening enough walls/ceiling to let water out, and not containing the worksite properly so that our little kids wouldn't be subject to all the dust and debris). When we told them we'd hire our own people to do the work, Joey assured us that his guy has done this a bunch of times, and every time it's happened, he's done good work and Ryan wouldn’t reimburse us if we handled it ourselves. When they came by to fix the roof (rip up old roofing material, open up the plywood/decking, etc, the same guy they had they had attempt repairing the work in our house showed up with his boss, Jorge, and a torch. Jorge told me, we are going to torch it and push it back down. When I asked them why they weren't going by the original plan of replacing everything, he told me that was never the plan and they were always just going to reheat it and push it down. When it didn't work, they agreed that they now needed to do everything previously discussed. Given the lies and gaslighting, at that point, we decided to hire our own vendor to do all the interior repairs. When we told them the estimate, Ryan scoffed and said they weren't paying it. We decided to get a third party inspector to double check all the work done. He found a few things weren't done, like most importantly flashing around all of the skylights and chimneys. When we asked them about the discrepancies, they replied, "we don't replace anything unless it's deemed necessary by the insurance company. We replaced everything on the claim." We were able to get a copy of the claim from the previous owners and see that they did in fact bill insurance for those things. We replied, "it was on the insurance claim." To which they replied, "Okay." "it wasn't your insurance claim." After a couple more follow ups about outstanding damages and repairs, we haven't heard from them in almost a week. We've attempted many times over the past weeks to figure out where we were on reimbursement and fixing remaining damages. We're out of pocket now on repair costs, not including all the time off work we've had to take to deal with all of this. We tried to deal with this amicably and even pleaded with our vendor handling the interior repair to keep his cost down to avoid any pushback from Ryan for reimbursement. But, they have decided to just ignore us. At this point, we are going to have file a lawsuit. It's affected our move, our jobs, livelihood. As of June, our roof leaked again. At the point of flashing around the chimney, damaging the ceiling near our baby’s crib! As of July we also found there was a wire mesh installed over the dryer vent. So lucky to have caught it before our house burned down.Posted on Google![]()
